Wild West WinterFest
April 20, 2006 Minutes
(as Approved at the May 4, 2006 Meeting)
ATTENDANCE: Skip Hougland, Sue Shockley, Harry Huntsinger, Travis Burian, Connie Garrett, Sonja Berg, Todd Kesner, Al Lien and Karlene Pisarcik.
1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:15 a.m.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Skip Hougland moved to approve the March 16, 2006 minutes. Connie Garrett seconded. Motion carried.
3. ELECTION OF OFFICERS: Skip Hougland moved to nominate Travis Burian as Chairman. Sue Shockley seconded. All in favor. Motion carried. Connie Garrett moved to nominate Harry Huntsinger as Vice-Chair. Sue Shockley seconded. All in favor. Motion carried. The new Chairman took over the meeting.
4. FINANCIAL REPORT: Sue stated that there were no changes in the financial report.
5. MARKETING: Travis said they were working on an overall, signature event, marketing plan. Everything is going well.
6. PET TRICKS and CONFORMATION: Nothing but positive comments were heard from these two events.
7. DOG KEG PULL CONTEST: Connie reported that they need to make a few changes in the rules and regulations for next year. There is really no way to take away the beer at a beer drinking event which is what this is.
8. AG IN THE CLASSROOM: Todd reported that they were not going to do this again. He really felt like they were in the way this year. Sue stated that she would still like to do something with the kids and agriculture and that she doesn’t want to totally lose this program. Todd said the program doesn’t work well on Friday as the busing is part of the problem. It always worked better on a Thursday or even a Wednesday and Sue suggested that maybe they would still be willing to have this event next year if it was on Thursday eventhough there is nothing much happening since WWW doesn’t begin until Friday. Sue said we’ll think about this and maybe have a solution at the next meeting.
9. McLIEN’S FARM BARN: We need to fill the barn with animals. It’s not a good thing when the animals leave early and that usually seems to happen. Sue suggested hiring a Petting Zoo to be in that barn which would help tremendously. Perhaps having a barn superintendent to oversee the animals care as well as answering questions for visitors would be a good idea. Skip volunteered to be the superintendent. It was suggested to not have an equipment display next year as it’s a tremendous amount of work for Al to do. Maybe have this barn open for visitors on Thursday and then Ag in the Classroom could have something else to see. Sue asked if we could include the hay show and the potato people in this barn as well and
everyone thought that would work.
10. HAY SHOW: Skip reported that this show needs refining and details need to be addressed. Information on results needs to be clarified in simple terms so everyone can understand how the hay is analyzed. Al will work with Skip again on this show. Maybe we could contact Dennis Cash early enough to see if he would do the hay analysis at no charge.
