Are there any contaminated ground water areas in the Gallatin Valley?
Gallatin Local Water Quality District
Yes, there are several areas of known ground water contamination in the Gallatin Valley.  Two of these are controlled ground water areas:

Bozeman Solvent Site Controlled Ground Water Area.  Located in the City of Bozeman at the old Buttrey's Shopping Center location and extending northward beyond I-90 and Frontage Road.

Idaho Pole Company Site Controlled Ground Water Area.  Located in Gallatin County northeast from the City of Bozeman.

There are additional locations of known hazardous chemical spills and toxic release sites within the boundaries of the Gallatin Local Water Quality District (GLWQD).  The GLWQD has a spatial database that identifies areas of known and potential ground water contaminant sources.  Please contact our office for additional information about the database or to view the information.
