Which agencies’ records are kept by Support Services/Records?
Support Services/Records maintains the records from the Bozeman Police Department, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and the Gallatin County Detention Center. To obtain a copy of a report generated by a different agency, such at the Montana Highway Patrol, the agency must be contacted directly.
How can I get a copy of a police or accident report?
A copy of a police or accident report can be obtained by either mailing or faxing a written request, stating specifically what is wanted. Dates and the responding officer are also helpful. A Request for Copies Form is available at the front window of Support Services/Records at the Law & Justice Center.
How much does a copy of a report cost?
For a report consisting up to four pages, the cost is $2.00.
For additional pages, the cost is $.50 a page.
For a copy of a phone call, the cost is $10.00.
What reports am I entitled to?
Depending on how a person is listed on a police report determines what that person can have. Please direct further questions regarding entitlement to Records personnel. To obtain a copy of a report that you were not directly involved in or certain other circumstances you may have to submit an application for the Release of Confidential Criminal Justice Information.
