About the Gallatin County Road & Bridge Department
The Gallatin County Road & Bridge Department is funded in part by a 3% mill levy, as well as gas tax and impact fees.  With the limited budget, the Gallatin County Road & Bridge Department employs 35 people including equipment operators, mechanics, and administrative staff.  This department is responsible for the maintenance of 243 roads totaling over 800 centerline miles, 205 bridges, including those within Bozeman city limits, and approximately 5000 culverts.  Work is performed on county maintained roads and bridges, and does not include the following road systems:

Subdivision roads (public roads maintained by the residents, usually through a homeowner association, or an RID)
Private roads and bridges (privately owned and maintained by residents)
City roads (maintained by the city)
State highways (maintained by the MT Dept. of Transportation).

If you want to know whether a road is maintained by Gallatin County you may call us at 406-582-3250
If you are considering purchasing property in Gallatin County you should investigate road conditions and maintenance issues to determine services available to the property prior to purchasing.  This will help to avoid potential future frustration and disappointment.
