Fitness Test Scoring & Technique
Gallatin County Sheriff's Office
The attached PDF form shows what scores can be achieved based on age and sex of candidate.

In response to many questions and some misunderstandings about what will be expected during the PT test, we will try and explain what we require of our candidates.

The military style pushup is done on your toes, not your knees.  Your back must remain flat (rear end, shoulders, and knees must stay in a plane), not sagging to the ground or arched toward the sky.  You will start in the up position and must go down to the point that your elbows are level with your shoulders and back (elbows at at 90 degree angle).  You must go up until your arms are nearly straight.  Pushups done halfway up or down will not be counted.  You may rest only in the up position, and will be stopped if you rest while lying on the ground.

The sit up we require is not a crunch.  You are required to keep your hands locked behind your head (not neck) or crossed and touching your chest.  You must keep your hands in the position you choose for the entirety of the exercise.  Your lower backs must touch the ground in the down position, and your body must go up to vertical in the up position.  You may not use your arms to pull yourself up or hook over your knees to rest.  Resting is allowed in the up position only, but your arms must remain as stated above.

In both cases you will be given 1 minute and 30 seconds to complete the exercise.  Your count will be terminated if you stop and rest while lying on the ground.  We are fairly strict, so please come prepared.

The 1.5 mile run is just that.  It will be completed outdoors, on city streets weather permitting.  Headphones and timing devices are allowed.

Once agian, you must have your Physician's Release signed at the time of testing.
