The Sheriff's Office and Coroner's Offices were combined in early 2008. This is the related press release from that decision:
Today Gallatin County Commissioners passed a Resolution of Intent to consolidate the office of County Coroner with the office of County Sheriff.
The current County Coroner, Duncan MacNab, was re-elected to the position of Coroner in the November 7, 2006 election, taking a four-year term of office effective January 1, 2007 and expiring December 31, 2011. Mr. MacNab has given his resignation effective December 31, 2007.
Sheriff Jim Cashell has agreed to accept the responsibilities of the Coroner’s office. The Commissioners can see enhanced delivery of efficient and effective services to Gallatin County residents by consolidating these two offices.
A hearing on the Resolution to Approve this matter is currently scheduled for December 11th, 2007 at 9:00 AM in the Courthouse Community Room, 311 West Main Street, Bozeman, Montana.
