Update on Fund Raising for SAR
Last week the Sheriff’s Office was made aware that local Residents were being solicited by phone to donate for Search and Rescue. At that time a limited press release was issued advising that Gallatin County Search and Rescue is not soliciting funds by phone. Many residents contacted the Sheriff’s Office and we have received sufficient information to investigate this activity. The solicitation is originating from Washington and has no affiliation with local Search and Rescue groups. The people soliciting use a local mail box that is forwarded to placeStateWashington. Sheriff’s Detectives are actively investigating this activity. The solicitors are registered with the Montana Secretary of State as Search and Rescue Charities but local
agencies do not receive any benefit. The phone solicitors reportedly are misrepresenting themselves as “Bozeman Search and Rescue”. Detectives have sufficient information at this time so further reports by citizens are unnecessary.
Always be cautious of phone solicitations. You can check out solicitors by contacting the Montana Secretary of State with whom they must register.
