Guardian Ad Litem
Volunteer Recruitment and Training
Volunteering as a Guardian Ad Litem is rewarding because you have the opportunity to truly make a difference in the life of a child. Children who are appointed a Guardian Ad Litem spend less time in the foster care system. Children also have a better chance of finding a permanent home when a Guardian Ad Litem is appointed.
Volunteers are recruited through speaking engagements, advertisements, or word of mouth. Job descriptions are available to interested volunteers. A screening process begins with an application and references, an interview, and a criminal background check. A minimum of 30 hours of training is required. An existing Guardian Ad Litem is paired with the new Guardian Ad Litem on their first case.
The program volunteers meet regularly to support each other. There is ongoing training in child development, juvenile justice, and child abuse and neglect.
