Public Safety Communications Officer
The Gallatin County Communications Office is looking for a conscientious individual to handle phone calls from citizens of Gallatin County requesting emergency services. This person is accurate, consistent, careful, cooperative, persistent, and respectful and has strong telephone communication skills.  

In response to urgent calls, 911 Emergency Dispatchers direct collaborative efforts between law enforcement, fire and EMS.  Following the appropriate training, dispatchers are empowered to operate within an organizational structure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
Applicants for this position must have the ability to: effectively facilitate radio communications; assess and evaluate incoming telephone calls; remain calm in stressful situations; make accurate decisions while using good judgment; maintain concentration and not be affected by distractions; handle sensitive and confidential information; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers and emergency service providers.

EDUCATION:  
Education: High School graduate or equivalency.

Required: Accurate keyboarding skills at 40 words per minute.

Must not have been convicted of a crime for which one could be imprisoned in a State or Federal prison or a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude nor be a habitual law violator.  Be of good moral character as determined by a thorough background check; possess or be eligible for a valid Montana driver's license; successfully pass an oral interview/examination plus any other requirements which may be deemed necessary to perform the duties of a communications officer; must not be addicted to the use of intoxicating liquors or narcotics or use habit forming drugs. Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification is required, and training will be provided after completing probation.  EMD Cerifiaction must also be kept current to retain employment.  The applicant must also complete Basic Dispatcher Training which will be provided after successful completion of probation.  All associated costs are employer paid.

SALARY:
Union position, on the job training wage:  $13.44 hr.
Upon successful completion of on the job training wage
will increase to $15.36/hr. + Excellent Benefits.
WORK HOURS:
Full-time; must be able to work variable hours/shifts
during training. After training, must be able to work one
of three shifts as assigned.  Two consecutive days off
will be provided.
