Under general supervision, performs duties toward the maintenance, repair and overhaul of County machinery, vehicles, heavy equipment and diesel-powered road construction equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants for this position must possess a valid driver's license (Class A, Type 1), issued by the State of Montana and be insurable under the County's liability policies; must furnish the County with a certified copy of their Montana driving record or driving record from any other state; must have own hand tools; have a thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials and tools used in the mechanic trade; principles of operation of gasoline and diesel-powered internal combustion engines; automotive safety practices and procedures; and have the ability to inspect, diagnose and service equipment; use hand and power tools; air arc, arc and wire welding, lathe setup and operation; work outside under varying weather conditions; read, write and follow instructions; and establish and
maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school with two (2) years' increasingly responsible experience involving the repair and maintenance of automotive and road construction equipment.
Experience: Must include two (2) years experience in maintenance, repair and overhaul of gas and diesel engines; must have one (1) year experience in servicing, lube and oil on construction equipment; one (1) year experience in automotive testing and diagnostic equipment; one (1) year experience in welding and fabrication.
