About the Judges
Get to know your Justice Court Judges:

Judge Gordon L.Smith is a non-lawyer judge with 18 years experience on the bench.  In addition to his duties in Gallatin County Justice Court he is the sitting judge in two city courts, Three Forks and Manhattan.  The judges are elected every 4 years.  Judge Smith has been re-elected by the citizens of Gallatin County each term since 1990.  

Judge Smith is a graduate of the National Judicial Academy, the Montana Judicial Institute at the University of Montana Law School and attendee at numerous other Montana Supreme Court Training schools.

Judge Scott Wyckman was raised in Missoula, Montana where he attended Grade School, High School and the University of Montana.

Judge Wyckman moved to Bozeman, Montana in May 1968 as a trooper with the Montana Highway Patrol.  After 23 years with the Montana Highway Patrol, serving as Detachment Commander.  Judge Wyckman was elected Justice of The Peace in November 1990.  The judges are elected every 4 years.  Judge Wyckman has been re-elected by the citizens of Gallatin County each term since 1990.  Judge Wyckman is a non-lawyer judge who is a graduate of the National Judicial Academy, the Montana Judicial Institute at the University of Montana Law School and attendee at numerous other Montana Supreme Court Training schools.

Judge Wyckman currently serves on the Montana Supreme Courts Commission on Courts of Limited Jurisdiction, on the Montana Department of Justices Criminal Justice Information System, Chairman of the Montana Supreme Courts Automation Committee and currently assists with training other Judges at the semi-annual Supreme Court training schools.
